FDN DAB Main Transmitter Power Increase

When we began broadcasting to the Greater Norwich Area in September 2015, we operated our main DAB transmitter at a radiated power level of 100 Watts. Following discussions with the the UK broadcast radio regulator, Ofcom, it was agreed that this power level could be doubled to 200 Watts. After new equipment has been purchased and commissioned, we expect to begin transmitting at the higher power level early in 2016.

For copyright reasons, we aren’t allowed to publish our Ofcom coverage map, so (courtesy of Glyn Roylance at Associated Broadcast Consultants) here’s an alternative interactive version showing where you should be able to pick up our DAB transmissions once we’ve increased the power of our Markham Tower DAB Transmitter:

Signal Strengths – Key to colour codes
Blue = 74 dBµV/m = Robust indoor reception and excellent mobile reception
Orange = 68 dBµV/m = Strong indoor reception and robust mobile reception
Green = 62 dBµV/m = Good indoor reception and strong mobile reception
Yellow = 54 dBµV/m = Limited indoor reception and adequate mobile reception.
Note: In Yellow areas domestic receivers may need aerial fully extended / more carefully positioned.
