Arqiva Norfolk DAB Problems

The Norfolk County DAB Multiplex, operated by Arqiva on behalf of Now Digital, was off air between approximately 09:45 yesterday (Monday the 11th of January 2016) and 02:00 this morning (Tuesday the 12th of January). In two further separate incidents, according to the BBC, additional problems were encountered between 11:18 and 12:16 this morning and, again, between 14:07 and 15.22 this afternoon. In both cases, BBC Radio Norfolk was, again, (along with the other programme services carried) not available on DAB across most of the County.

Yesterday’s outage (Monday 11th of January) saw all transmitters except that which serves the North Walsham area off air. It is understood that the problem related to Virgin Media connectivity and that temporary measures were employed to restore service early this morning.

The Norfolk DAB multiplex operates on DAB Block 10B (Centre Frequency 211.648 MHz). Serving Central and East Norfolk, it includes transmitters at Daffy Green, Great Yarmouth, North Walsham, Oulton, Stoke Holy Cross (for Norwich), Thetford MOD and West Runton. Additional transmitters are expected to be added to this multiplex over the coming months, including for: Norwich Central (Mousehold Avenue, Norwich), Hinkling (Stubb Road), Martham (Collins Lane) and Diss.

Details of the planned coverage of this DAB multiplex can be found on the Ofcom Website.

Services carried include BBC Radio Norfolk, Capital Radio, Gold, Heart Norfolk, Smooth Norfolk, EPG Norwich (data service) and (occasionally) Pop Up Radio. Between March 2003 and September 2015 it operated on DAB Block 11B, moving to its current allocation on the 09th of September last year.

Services carried on FDN’s Greater Norwich DAB multiplex were unaffected and operated as normal throughout yesterday and today.
